Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua

Walk backwards into the future with eyes fixed on the past

Haere mai, Kia ora, Talofa lava, Bula Vinaka, Mālō e lelei, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Ni hao, Namaste, Chao, Kia orana, As-salāmu 'alaykum, and greetings to you all.

Thank you for joining us in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington for GP24: The Conference for General Practice.

In this 50th year of the College and the Conference, we were thrilled to celebrate this significant anniversary with our members and community as part of GP24. As a College, the knowledge and experiences of the past 50 years will help shape the next 50 years and beyond.

This year’s whakatauki, "kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua" - walking backwards into the future with eyes fixed on the past, was chosen with this anniversary in mind.

This is a significant time for general practice and rural hospital medicine in New Zealand. Burnout continues to be an issue, as does the number of doctors we can attract to train in the profession. The conference programme was created with GPs’ and rural hospital doctors’ interests and scopes in mind and also appealed to the wider primary health care sector, including medical students.

Thank you once again for being a part of GP24, and please save the date for GP25: Conference for general practice, Thursday 24 July - Sunday 27 July, in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
